MTBE is a fuel additive and has traditionally been difficult to clean up through biodegradation. However, more research has shown that certain bacterial strains, such as those in our  Oil Digester – MTBE™ are able to break down the molecules.

Unlike other gasoline components, MTBE is highly soluble and does not adhere well to carbon particles when in soil. Due to its different behavior, it can require a different approach to remediation when it is present in a  contaminated site.
